Gentlemen of the Association, Ex 9 Squadron Iroquois A2-1019 has been restored to its original 1967 Vietnam configuration by the Australian War Memorial. The aircraft is being prepared as the Vietnam War centre piece in the new post 1945 gallery. A2-1019 is to be depicted as a 9 Squadron aircraft in early 1967 on an operational insertion, deploying a section of Australian Army Infantry, and the next step is to fit four mannequins representing the 9 Squadron aircrew in 1967 attire. The AWM is having problems acquiring enough aircrew clothing and equipment from this period and would be grateful if any ex members could help in the supply of any of the following items Chamois Gloves - cream colour Flying Boots - zippered style not GPs Helmets - APH1 Flack Jackets Chicken Plates Any aircraft containers, boxes or bags as used in the rear of the aircraft Please note that preferably these items should be used and not new. If any member of the Association is able to help with any of these items, please contact Rob Gee on 02 62581521 or robingee@bigpond.com. Rob is an ex 9 Squadron Airframe Fitter and a volunteer in the AWM aircraft restoration section. He has spent 18 months working on the Iroquois program and many of you would have met him when you saw the near completed project at last years reunion. Steve Patterson (1/89 ADG Basic Course) Well fellas here's the chance to take a climpse at Steve Patersons service time as an ADG Steve has been kind enough to offer his collection of photo's starting from the moment he signed the dotted line of enlistment. Thanks Steve i'm sure the fellas will enjoy the walk down your memory lane. The Pom. RAAF PhotosPhotos: 210 - 69 MB 7 Aug 2007 Public Photos taken during my career as an Airfield Defence Guard (ADG) with the Royal Australian Air Force. I enlisted in November 1988 and served six years, then tried civilian life for a short period, re-enlisting in July 1995 for a further three years. I discharged in July 1998 but remained on full time service as a reservist until October 1999. Nowadays I work for Customs and I'm also a reserve SGT ADG with Combat Support Unit Richmond. G'day Pom, you've been after more photos for a while and I've finally pulled my finger out and scanned my collection. There's about 200 photos and newspaper clippings posted here, starting with my recruit course at the end of 1988. Most of the photos cover the late 80s and early 90s, as I got out of the habit of deploying with a camera. Cheers, Steve Patterson (1/89 ADG Basic Course) |

Hi Bob how things. Just giving you an update on the Vietnam Veterans march held at Springwood on sunday. As with Sydney's Anzac day march we were able to proceed with the march but due to the rain the remaining ceremony was conducted indoors. We had the Nam Bus on display, and it was pleasing to see a photo of the ADG"S doing a patrol at Phan Rang. Not to be let down by our younger generation of adgies included in the Federation Guard was Lac Steve Morley from 2AFDS. Steve is on a 2 year attachment with the Federation Guard which involvrs the 3 services. He did us proud with his precision display, and of course they were using SLR. Keep up the good work. G'Day Guys, I have to thank "Patto" for the collection of pictures that he has posted on the site, It brought a lot of memories back for me and made me have a few laughs.....(needed some) Still alive and well here in Iraq, even thought I lost two mates a few weeks ago to a complex IED and EFP attack. Have been through rocket attacks and sniper fire here in the last few weeks as well. Lucky the "snipers" are bad shots. Mick Sloan - "Wombat" |
