"The Pom"
Well Fellas i see a few of ya's have been missing the Pom

Well two heart attacks and a stroke have't killed me yet so i suppose you'll be stuck with me for a while longer

Give me a couple of days to get my head back in place and we'll be back running again.

The Pom.
Thanks Fellas to all who wrote me wishing me good health and a speedy recovery .... home now from being flat on my butt in hospital.
The perving was great, them there nurses sure get prettier by the day, even the ugly ones seem to improve but some are beyond help i,m sure and i,m sure they were assigned to my room and in particular to assist me at shower time.

8 July 1955
Work began on Butterworth base

Following Prime Minister R.G. Menzies’ announcement in April 1955 that the RAAF had been offered a free loan of the RAF airfield at Butterworth, on the north-west coast of Malaya, as the base for an Australia’s air contingent to a Commonwealth Strategic Reserve in the Far East, on this day an advance party from No 2 Airfield Construction Squadron (2ACS) arrived to begin work on bringing the airfield up to jet standards. Australia planned to commit a composite wing of two Sabre fighter squadrons and a squadron of Canberra bombers, which needed more and better facilities than currently existed. It was not until 12 September that the main body of 2ACS arrived and began work in earnest. Working around the threat of attack by Communist terrorists, by May 1958 the runway, taxiways, fighter and bomber hardstands were all ready for operational use––a month ahead of schedule.

First F/A-18F Super Hornet rolled out

On this day, the first of 24 F/A-18E/F twin-seat Super Hornets on order for the RAAF was unveiled at the Boeing aerospace company’s plant in St Louis, Missouri. The aircraft A44-201, referred to as a ‘Rhino’ (the name used by the US Navy to differentiate its carrier variant of the Super Hornet), was presented by Boeing officials to the Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Mark Binskin, at the rollout ceremony. It would be joined by the next three production aircraft for the first ferry flight to Australia in March 2010. The first 12 aircraft delivered would join No 1 Squadron at Amberley, Queensland. About 40 Australians––a mix of F-111 and Classic Hornet aircrew, plus technicians––were receiving Super Hornet training with the US Navy in California, including the Commanding Officer of 1 Squadron, Wing Commander Glen Braz, whose name appeared on the aircraft shown at St Louis.

Pommie,

This 'tongue in cheek' article sent by Phil 'Spook' Armstrong as he evaluates our medieval festival last weekend.
Hope you can fit it in.

Hello Pom;

I was pleasantly surprised to come across your Blue Beret website recently. I was GDefO at 1 RTU Edinburgh, and Adg Flt Williamtown during my service years back in the 70's, before going back to college to get my education degree. The downside of reading your site was coming across the names of George Foskett, John Littlewood and Jim Bonner on your memorial page; in my memory they are still young and vigorous. Please add my info to your coms page.

Inquiries into unresolved recognition issues for Royal Australian Air Force personnel who served at Ubon between 1965 and 1968

The Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Support, the Hon Dr Mike Kelly AM MP, announced today that the independent Defence Honours and Awards Tribunal will inquire into unresolved recognition issues for Royal Australian Air Force personnel who served at Ubon, Thailand between 1965 and 1968.

“I am pleased that the Defence Honours and Awards Tribunal will inquire into this long standing recognition issue,” Dr Kelly said.

“This inquiry represents a continuation of reviews into long standing Defence honours and awards issues identified by the Government in 2007.”

“Many people have written to me concerning this issue and I would encourage them to now take advantage of this opportunity to make a submission to the Tribunal,” Dr Kelly said.
