Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have received the following information from Peter Johnson on behalf of Peter Ryan from the organising committee.

David Fisher (SAS) was lost in Viet-Nam when he fell from a rope suspended from a 9 Sqn helicopter during extraction.
A follow up search by SAS and Infantry troops failed to find any trace of him.

His remains were finally found late in 2008 and were repatriated to Australia in December 2008
escorted home from Ha Noi by some of his fellow SAS members.

A "Home At Last" plaque for David Fisher is to be unveiled at the Viet-Nam Memorial in ANZAC Parade,
Canberra on Viet-Nam Veterans Day, 18th August 2009.

A strong 9 Sqn Association turnout would be desirable for this event given that he fell from one of our helicopters.

Those attending this ceremony should assemble at the Viet-Nam Memorial in Canberra by 1130 Hours on the 18th August 2009.
Medals should be worn for this ceremony.

A traditional gathering for Veterans, Families and friends, will be held at the Manuka Services Club after the unveiling ceremony.

Please make a concerted effort to attend this ceremony.

Regards
Peter Johnson

Report 40th Anniversary of the Battle of Binh Ba Vietnam

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have received the following from Dave Moles:

9Sqn Association Members this is a short report on the 40th Anniversary of the Battle of Binh Ba Vietnam which was held in Canberra on the 5th and 6th of June 09. 9Sqn was involved with this battle that was the first time since the second World War that Infantry,Tanks, APC, Air Support, was used together in force .

The crews of the Heavy Fire Team were: Bushranger 71; Capt. Allan Adamson, C/P. Bob Treloar, C/G. Dave Moles. C/G. Al Lamb. BR72 Capt. Mike Tardent, C/P John Peterson NZ, C/G Peter Amos, C/G Ray Hay, BR 73, Capt. John Hazelwood, C/P Mal Walker, C/G Fred Ferry, C/G Ray Rennie.
71 and 72 flew 5hrs 73 flew 1.5 hrs , all aircraft used a lot of ammo on the Village, BR 71 received back blast in the form of a LARGE roof tile though the front windscreen, (we were a bit low).

The Commemorations started with a Symposium on Friday 5th June 09 at the Australian War Memorial, where the Commanders gave their perspective views of the Battle, I must say that Allan Adamson did the Sqn proud, John Paul was our guest at the Symposium also the wife’s of Allan’ Ray and Al attended, they got a bit of a shock as they did not know what we got up to.

Friday night Dcoy 5RAR invited all of us to a dinner and drinks at the Canberra Club, a great night the Grunts made a great fuss over us, Al , Bob and myself tried to drink the keg dry.

Saturday the 6th of June 09 the main service was held at the Vietnam Memorial, Australia’s Federation Guard with the Band from Duntroon marched on the Armoured Standard, the Cav. Guidon, 5 RAR Colours, then the Banners of the units George Beath and Spags Spackman carried the 9Sqn ACT Banner for us and I thank them.
The GG, the Minister for Vet Affairs and CDF, the 3 Service Chiefs were the main guest’s, Allan Adamson laid the wreath on behalf of 9Sqn after it was over the CDf meet with the 9Sqn troops.
That night there was a reception at the Lakeside Hotel put on by the Minister for Vet Affairs (Allan Griffin) then a Dinner with the Colours marched in our Banner was placed near the 9Sqn table JP and Valda joined us as our guest a great night was had by all, as I said before the Grunts were very pleased to see us and made it a great weekend one I will not forget.

Kind regards to all,

Dave Moles

Hi Everyone

Does anyone know the whereabouts of Mike Lancaster?  If so please contact Max Meyers whose email address appears below.

Cheers

Sambo

Mike Lancaster

Dear John,

Former RAAF Meteor pilot, Max Meyers,  is trying to contact Flt Lt Mike Lancaster, who was in RTFV very early in the piece.

I think he could have been the tall bloke in the official photo on the rain-soaked tarmac in Saigon, leading the airmen off the first Caribou there, but am not sure.  He was there before my time in June, 1965.

If he is still alive and on  the Association records, could you pass this email on to him, with Max’s email address of

maxmeyers@bigpond.com

Thanks heaps

Stuart Bradley (Again)

Gday Pom.

As you can see, I am now back in Australia ( Adelaide ). Temporary email, chestercskipper@hotmail.com

At this very moment, I am around at Blueys' place and going through your web site.

We noticed, that he is not mentioned in the 1OSU Roll.

Martin did around twenty three years in the RAAF, ending his career as a Warrant Officer / Loadmaster.

However, he too, was proud to have been an ADG, and would would like to be remembered as such.

Blue served at Vung Tau from 11 /6 / 70, to 10 / 6 / 71.

Cheers Mate, Chester.

To:  'The Pom'

G'day mate,

My name is Brett Tanton - I appear in the 2/84 ADG Basic Course on the far left standing up. Discharged from the RAAF on comapssionate grounds after serving for 12months. I was awarded Dux of that course and scored the trophy - hope my name is still on it.

Joined the NSW Police Force and served for 8.5 years after reaching Senior Constable and then migrated to QLd where I joined the Queensland Police Service. Wasn't long before business opportunites began to shine and I resigned after serving a total of 10years.

Only recently resigned from the Army Reserve 1 MP Battalion after 4 years.

Happy to help out with the ADG site if you like - also operating a computer gaming company now and have many years in IT.

Regards Brett
