"The Pom"
14-28th August 2009
Hi Pom

I'm ex Regular Army, 1967 - 1987 (Army no: 423737) and ARes 1987 - 2001 (1 Training Group) and served in HQ AFV in 1968 -69 and am a member of the RAASC Vietnam Veterans Association.

In August 2009, I'm leading the
Gunners and Grocers tour to Vietnam, which some members of Air Defence Guards Association might be interested in joining. ( For information ).  Email Phil direct.

You will see we are visiting areas where the ADG's served and  would like to see the you lot add a bit of class to us motley group.

The tour is fully inclusive, escorted and four/five star all the way; a highlight being a visit to Nui Dat and the Long Tan Cross on 18 August.  I know there are numerous Veterans tours to Vietnam, however, all are different and tailored to different needs and organisations.
This tour, although designed for Vietnam Veterans, has been tailored to anyone who has an interest in the history and culture of this fascinating country.  It is particularly suitable for couples.  The accommodation in Vietnam is first class as you can see from the itinerary.

I'm planning on a group of around 25 and at this stage have 20 definite.
It would be great if you could provide a bit of publicity either on your website or in relevant newsletters.

Best wishes

Phil

Let's show them there GRUNTS a bit of true ADGie style and carisma
Dear All,

Reminder

You may recall that the Vietnam Veterans Federation assisted in the making of the music video for a new version of ‘I Was Only 19’ by a group called ‘The Herd’. That music video went straight to number 1, staying there for many weeks.

A documentary on the making of that video, including our input, will be shown on TV ABC2 at 10pm on Monday 16th March.

It will be worth watching.

Hi Bob

Sorry we only had a short time together in Brisbane, hope to get together with you again soon.

Just a few little items which might be of interest to the guys:

·The ADG Museum (Historical Collection) at 2AFDS Amberley will be officially opened on Thursday 9th April 2009
(The day before Good Friday) at 10.00 a.m.

There is a really good collection of Adgie history from World War 2 right through Vietnam and East Timor to the Solomons, Iraq and Afghanistan. Lots of good memories and everyone will be welcome at the opening, which will be followed by morning tea at 2AFDS HQ. (Top of the hill on the Amberley-Haigslea Road, where the old 114CRU used to  be).

The Reunion Cruise was a great success and we’re now starting to look at 2011.
We welcome a suggestions for venues etc: Some that we’ve had so far include Brisbane, Townsville, Darwin and another cruise.

A couple of years ago the Association held an Anniversary Dinner at the Irish Club in Brisbane, which was also a roaring success.
We’re planning to hold another dinner in August this year – just an early warning, more details to follow.

Tassie Walters has been in touch and says that he is now having treatment for his illness and seems to be responding well.
He has asked me to thank everyone for their cards and good wishes.

That’s about the lot for now.

Regards

Jim

Hey Pom,

Russ Carrier & myself were getting ready for the 1st day of the Hervey Bay fishing comp when the Fat Bloke appears out of his donga bleary eyed & cursing the buttons on his new fishing shirt are on the wrong side.

On closer inspection we discover he is wearing a womens XXXL complete with darts under his man boobs, instantly he blames Neroli for buying the wrong shirt only to be found out at a later time that Mick picked his own birthday present.

After a hard days fishing with the big shiela Russ & I came to the conclusion that maybe Mick should have entered as a female. He may have won some accessories to go with his blouse.

Looks as though we are going to have a good showing of Adgies at the Bay for Anzac Day with Mick coming to join Russ,Pete,Phil & myself.

Look after yourself mate

Pom;

This is a bit late and I should have let you know earlier, but of course didn’t think. Through the week , Jan Jurds Dad died  suddenly, of course it has knocked her around pretty badly, as her and Roy had him living with them for some years now to look after him. She is well known among the ADGie fraternity, and was very helpful and supportive of many Vets, and had a close relationship with  a number of old ADGies. If you could let the Brissie crowd know I am sure that some will want to contact her.

At this stage the funeral will be held in Newcastle, during this week , but I will let you know as I know more. Jan’s Dad was a WW2 vet who served with the RAAF in the Islands.

Cheers;

Braz

Funeral Arrangements are 3pm 24th March 09 at Beresfield Cremotorium

Don’t worry if you can’t help I will chase down someone when I get up there as it is time this old bloke spent at least part of Anzac day with his son.as he is in the army up there.
