Gidday Pom, Some of your ADGie.net readers may be interested to know that my book, Always There, will become available during September. You would recall that I used some photos courtesy of your website. Subtitled 'A History of Air Force Combat Support', it covers all support aspects so is not exclusively about ground defence though it gets a fair coverage. It covers the early days of WWI through WWII, Korea, Vietnam and the modern era with a primary focus on CSG and the modern era. It will be available on-line through the RAAF's Air Power Development Centre website, under the publications tab. You can google them or access the site through the RAAF website. I have acknowledged the photos used from ADGies.net in the book but would ask that you pass on my personal thanks to Jim Conway, Peter Beckwith and Alan Nobrega. There were a number of other photos that were quite suitable, but of course there's a limit to what I could use. Again, my thanks to you and all of your web mates for your cooperation. I hope you enjoy the book. Regards, Graham O'Brien |
: Help needed Dear all I have been contacted by a Gulf War 1 Veteran who is friends with a deceased Vietnam Veterans daughter and he has asked me if I can find any details on her father, in particular the circumstances surrounding his death. He is ex 7 RAR second tour and was apparently WIA and hospitalised in Sydney (Concord?) where he apparently died in 1972, the daughter was only 4 YO and obviously has no real recollection of her dad. She doesn't even know how he died or what his wounds were, it seems her mum prefers to keep it all to herself probably to protect her kids. If anybody can help please contact me on the below email address, his name and number are Arthur John Gibson 218450. Any info would be much appreciated. FYI, he appears in the nominal roll. Many thanks Regards Bill Dobell billdobell@gmail.com Phone 03 5336 1538 Mobile 0417 616 759 |
Funeral arrangements Darren James Hoare. Funeral - Tuesday 8th September 2009 1100hrs Ipswich Region Community Church 332 Ripley Road Flinders View Burial - Stone Quarry Cemetery Stone Quarry Road Ebenezer All family, friends and work colleges are invited to attend the wake. Wake - Ipswich RSL 5a Lowry Street North Ipswich Regards N.B. HOGG Mobile: 041 356 9173 ====================================================================================================== UNCLASSIFIED All, I've had some questions IRT dress etc for the funeral. Best advice is that since Darren was an Ex member, the wearing of uniform to his service is an individual decision. Should members wish to attend in uniform, the suggested dress is Ceremonial 4B (long sleeve and tie). Be aware of the restriction against the wearing of the Beret whilst wearing any form of Ceremonial dress. Again due to the fact that Darren death was unconnected with the RAAF, any public comment should be restricted to statements of a personal nature. Any comments sought IRT service related matters are to be directed to Base or Unit Public Liaison Officers. Thanks Anthony Hordern A. Sent: Tuesday, September 08, 2009 8:13 AM Subject: 2 Squadron Funeral / Michael Herbert. Gday Pom. Thanks for flicking that stuff through from Tomo. I received calls from several Blokes last night / evening, expressing disappointment and even a little sadness at missing Michael Herbert's Funeral. Like myself, they assumed that if anyone knew the correct details of the Funeral, it would be the 2 Squadron Association, details of which were published in last months edition of your web site. I am sure though, it was just an oversight not to have forwarded the changes to you. I know the advice was to get there early, but, two days ........... Still, shit happens ! No, Tomo, it wasn't me, you sure it wasn't Tom Cruise ......... will catch up with you soon. Cheers, Chester. |

Dear Mr. Cornwell, My name is Stella Tyne, and my father Neil Tyne, suggested I contact you in relation to an ADG stationed at Williamtown in the 1980's. I am actually trying to locate the gentleman in questions daughter for a school reunion being organized, unfortunately the only information I have is limited to: the daughters' name is Jackie and she would be 37-38 years old now, they lived in Clyde Circuit Raymond Terrace, at the time, she attended Irrawang Public and High schools when I met them in 1982 and she was In 5th class at the time. At this same time Carlo Christoffenson was also at williamtown and his son Shane also attended the schools. Jackie's father knows dad, but dad cant think who it is. I know it may be along shot but I appreciate any help you may be able to give. Thanking you Stella Tyne |

OUTRAGE OVER LAST POST SELL OUT Senator Boswell has asked me to send this media release to you regarding his concerns about the sponsorship deal the Australian War Memorial has put in place for their daily Last Post ceremony. OUTRAGE OVER LAST POST SELL OUT The Nationals Senator Ron Boswell said that he was outraged that the last post ceremony at the Australian War Memorial will become a sponsored event. Senator Boswell said that “this is a complete sell out of our most distinguished of ceremonies.” “The last post being played at the Australian War Memorial should be free of any distractions. It is there to remember our fallen, not the name of a telephone company.” “It is a dereliction of duty by the Rudd Government that it has forced an institution like the Australian War Memorial to have to resort to advertising for this solemn occasion.” Senator Boswell said that “the Memorial commemorates the sacrifice of Australians who have died in war. It helps Australians to remember our fallen and should not be compromised into becoming a commercial event.” “The Rudd Labor Government should immediately grant extra funding to the Australian War Memorial, so that they do not have to resort to the commercialisation of the last post ceremony.” “The Australian War Memorial is a shrine to the sacrifice of those men and women who died on behalf of the Australian nation in war. The least that the Rudd Government can do is to stop the denigration of a ceremony that honours their memories, by providing a little extra cash.” “There has been such a waste of taxpayers’ money on school signs, shonky insulation installers and government handouts, and yet the Rudd Government still can’t find the money to save this ceremony from the indignity of advertising.” “It should have been an easy decision to make between spending $4million on signs promoting Labor’s school spending or instead, saving a cherished ceremony from advertising.” ENDS Regards Michael Duff Media Officer Office of Senator Ron Boswell Level 36, Waterfront Place 1 Eagle St Brisbane Q 4000 Phone: 07 3001 8150 Fax: 07 30018151 Mobile: 0427 680 290 Email: michael.duff@aph.gov.au Parliament House Canberra Address Suite S1-44, Parliament House Canberra ACT 2600 Phone: 02 6277 3046 Fax: 02 6277 5724 ========================================================================================= |
